Our ICT network
Sweden is second only to the US in the use of
information technology and related communications techniques (ICT).
It is also no wonder that one of the world's leading companies in
this business, Ericsson, is a Swedish enterprise. Needless to say
the region offers an excellent framework for companies which operate
in the field of information technology or else rely on computer-based
business in their everyday work.
Extensive resources at low cost
The regional broadband network is extensive and
can easily be measured against the foremost in the world. We offer
your company communication capacities to the Internet of 1-3 mbit
per second through radio link, for example, and 5-10 Gbits per second
through the local fibre optical net. Solutions can of course be
provided to suit your company's very special needs.
The close co-operation between the local industrial
community and the energy company ensure that the cost level is very
low. With the de-regulation of the telecommunications market many
years ago in Sweden, telephone rates today are among the cheapest
in Europe.
Telecommunications
Sophisticated technique and professional compentence
in the radio networks area has been present in the region for a
long time, provided by the Ericsson Radio Systems
unit situated in Gävle, the largest city of the province.
Geographic Information System
This is an interesting ongoing project in the
region, in co-operation with the Gävle-based state-owned National
Land Survey of Sweden. It aims at commercialising the organisation's
know-how and competence in its extensive land-survey routines, which
rate among the best in the world. The program can successfully locate
the fastest routes, the best markets, target populations, number
of companies and other topographic data.
IT as a learning tool
Information technology is fast becoming an important
tool in any business. In the region we work with long-term programmes
from very early on, concentrating on every potential education level,
from day-care centres to high schools. At selected schools in the
region projects currently under way offer students access to their
own computer with their own e-mail address.
